Julius Rosenwald and the Rosenwald Schools are of national significance, and the best way to share their remarkable – yet surprisingly little known – story is in a National Park.

Julius Rosenwald, the son of Jewish immigrants who, after achieving great wealth leading Sears, Roebuck and Company, became a visionary philanthropist.

Julius Rosenwald partnered with African American communities across

the South to build schoolhouses for children who otherwise would have had extremely limited access to the public education to which they were entitled.

 

The envisioned Park will celebrate the contributions of this amazing philanthropist and the Rosenwald Schools, the power of partnership building, and the value of education as an essential equalizing force in our society.
